Treasure Shelter

Geography: Dnipropetrovsk region — Nikopol Territorial Community, Synelnykivskyi district, Kryvorizkyi district

Duration: June – August 2025

Goal: To support the psychological resilience of children and adults by creating opportunities for meaningful leisure activities during air raid alerts through the improvement of 4 shelters in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Activities: Equipping (or upgrading) 4 shelters in the Dnipropetrovsk region with furniture, technical equipment, and recreational resources.

Expected results: At least 200 children will have access to safe and secure conditions during air raid alerts, allowing them to feel protected and spend their time in the shelter meaningfully, which will positively impact their mental health and resilience.

Achieved Results

As a result of the project “Shelters for Treasures,” 4 shelters in Dnipropetrovsk oblast were further equipped — in the Nikopol territorial community, as well as in Synelnykove and Kryvyi Rih districts.

The shelters were provided with furniture, equipment, and materials for children’s meaningful leisure during air alerts. In particular, the shelters received tables, chairs, shelves, storage containers, EcoFlow portable power stations, projectors, children’s books, board games, toys, creative kits, blankets, and other materials to create a more comfortable and child-friendly space.

Thanks to the project, at least 200 children gained the opportunity to stay in safer, better equipped, and psychologically supportive conditions during air alerts. The shelter spaces became not only places of physical safety, but also environments where children can read, play, communicate, engage in creative activities, and cope with stressful situations more easily.

The project also supported the adults accompanying children during air alerts, as the equipped shelters help reduce tension, organize children’s time in a meaningful way, and create a greater sense of stability even amid constant danger.

The project confirmed the importance of equipping shelters not only as protective facilities, but also as child-friendly spaces that contribute to psychological resilience, a sense of safety, and the preservation of elements of normal childhood in times of war.
