On 28 February 2026, the conference “War Next to Us: A Christian Approach” took place in Iași, Romania. The event was organized by the Schuman Centre for European Studies in partnership with the Union of Ukrainians of Romania and the “Public Resources and Initiatives” Charity Foundation.
The conference was held on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army. At the same time, it became an opportunity for reflection on the geopolitical, legal, military, moral, and spiritual consequences of the war.
The event brought together scholars and experts in history, political science, law, international relations, theology, and security, who provided participants with an interdisciplinary analysis of the current situation and perspectives on the ongoing war. Particular attention was given to the impact of the war on society and the role of Christian values in understanding and overcoming conflicts of such scale.

The honor of delivering the opening presentation was given to Serhii Hakman, Vice President of the Public Resources and Initiatives Charity Foundation, Deputy Director of the Chernivtsi Regional Center for Professional Development, PhD in History, and Associate Professor.

The conference concluded with an open discussion, allowing participants to exchange views and reflections on the challenges posed by the ongoing war.

A special part of the event was a concert by Ukrainian pianist Ivan Shemchuk, who offered participants a moving artistic performance that complemented the atmosphere of reflection and solidarity.
The conference provided an important platform for dialogue and deeper understanding of the realities caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war. It also reaffirmed the importance of solidarity, moral responsibility, and Christian values in promoting peace and human dignity.
