Presentation of the Film "Only Lovers Will Survive: Traian Popovici and Others"

Presentation of the updated version of the documentary film "Only Lovers Will Survive: Traian Popovici and Others" On December 22, 2023, at the Romanian National House, the updated version of the documentary film "Only Lovers Will Survive: Traian Popovici and Others" was presented. The film was created within the framework of the project of the Public Resources and Initiatives Charity Foundation with the financial support of the RoAid International Development Cooperation Agency. The film is dedicated to the activities of the mayor of Chernivtsi, Traian Popovici, who in 1941 managed to save thousands of Jews from Chernivtsi from certain death. In 1969, in Israel, he was awarded the title of Righteous Among the Nations with the formulation "in special recognition for saving twenty thousand Chernivtsi Jews from deportation to death camps in Transnistria."

The documentary film presents the stories of Chernivtsi residents during World War II and reveals the secret of why, in wartime, the most important word is "love," and why stories of salvation are more important than the theme of murders. The plot is based on the book Confession. Biography. Testimonies by Dragoș Olariu and Serhiy Vorontsov about Traian Popovici.

The documentary was created within the framework of the project of the Public Resources and Initiatives Charity Foundation titled "Counteracting the distortion of Holocaust history through promoting the cultural and educational project 'Local History through the History of Symbolic Characters: The Mayor of Chernivtsi – Righteous Among the Nations'", with financial support from the RoAid International Development Cooperation Agency.
